I have a strong sense of what is right, but I don’t believe that what is right for me is right for everyone. My moral system is unique to my goals, beliefs, and life path. I don’t find the idea of a objective moral system very empowering or useful. I suggest that everyone find their own moral system and guide their lives to that. What is needed is not a blind following of any moral system, but what is needed is the creation of ones own moral system, based on ones own investigation.

It is far more effective for people to come up with their own guiding beliefs, not only will you believe them more but you will understand them and they will be a helpful addition to your life. If you take the time to investigate your beliefs and moral systems you will come to realize some very deep truths, probably even some truths that one could argue are absolute. But try as you may to communicate absolute truths you never can, for as the Tao so wonderfully says “The absolute that can be written is no the absolute.” One one experiences absolute truth it can not be explained to another, another must experience them himself. Absolute truths can not be transferred from one person to another in their completeness, gain one must feel them for himself. Someone can only point the way to that experience.

Are you doing what you love? Do you feel so motivated that you can’t wait to get up in the morning and get to it?

Or do you feel bored and uninspired?

When we are uninspired we begin to unconsciously let others tell us what to do. We start to create by default, or we create based on what other people tell us to create.

If you don’t have a clear idea what it is you want then it can only be a short time until someone else starts to tell you what you should want and what you should do. Usually this comes in the form of advertisements via the media, and sometimes it comes from friends or family who while meaning well, are just filling your head with their own desires, not yours.

Without clear goals you can’t blame anyone else but yourself for leading an uninspired life.

Get clear on what you want! Think about this, on an average day how much time do you spend doing what you have decided to based on your goals verses on much time you spend doing something out of boredom, a feeling of fear based on what others tell you you must do?

Working for others we forget what really inspires us. Our lack of clarity manifests itself when we start to create based on the clarity of others, we create what others want us to create because we are not clear enough on what we want to create ourselves.

We must be absolutely clear what our goals are if we are to lead an inspired life.

We have to really work on that which we want and that which we want only.

We have to give our goals 100% of our focus and continually say NO to the desires of others, this is the only way that we can begin to lead an inspired life, one in which we are absolutely loving and deeply inspired each and every moment to live in! A life in which every moment is sacred and fulfilled. Your life inspired is SO much better than your life uninspired.

Basically it all comes down to this. Are you going to get clear on what inspires you? Or are you just going to do what others tell you you should be inspired to do?

Are you going to lead an inspired life in which you are loving each and every moment, or are you going to lead a life in which you work for others feeling uninspired, stressed, and bored?

So get clear on what inspires you. Get clear on what it is that you truly want to be doing with your time. And just start doing it. Start slow if you must, but you MUST start NOW.

Its time that we started asking the questions that really mattered most. Its that time of year to reflect on our lives and really look deeply to see if our actions, words, and most importantly thoughts are getting is what we want.

I remember a definition I once heard for describing insanity; “Someone who does the same thing over and over again and expects different results each time.” Funny if you take that definition to be true then it would seem like a lot of people out in the world are insane.

Most people know what they want, its not really hard to come up with a couple things you would like. Everyone has desires, its what makes us human, honor and celebrate your desires, but for gosh sake take a look at your life now. Are you getting what you want? Are you achieving your goals? Are you living your dreams, and if not why not? What do you have to do different to start living your dreams, now?

Remember to look deeply at your desires at your dreams and goals. What do you really want, really? On the surface it might be something material like a new car but what is a new car without somewhere to go or people to see? And whats somewhere to go but a beautiful feeling, whats a new car without that the feeling you get by getting in the first time, without the feeling it would be like its not worth it, in fact you could probably say we aren’t really buying a new car after all, we are buying the feeling of whats its like to have a new car.

Behind all our materialistic desires there is an emotion, a feeling, that we desire, this is really the true desire. We desire the feeling, the feeling of driving a new car, the feeling we get when others see our new car the experience of driving it. And all of these feelings have one deeper feeling they want to evoke more of, happiness. We most deeply desire happiness, it is at the root of all desire. All our desires are rooted in the desire for happiness even the “bad” desires that are born out of fear are just a roundabout way of wanting a life of happiness.

So I ask you to take a look at your life, and ask yourself “Am I leading a happy life?” And if you aren’t what can you do, right now, or at the very least for gods sake, what can I do today to make my life more happy? What things can you change, because you must change something to live a more happy life. You must do something different to become more fulfilled and happy in your life.

And I ask you to really examine your material desires, to really contemplate on their value. Will your materialist desires really -really- -truly- bring happiness to your life? Of course when you fulfill a materialist desire it will bring some level of happiness to your life (as all of us who receive gifts for christmas know) but take a second or two to think how long that happiness will last. How much last happiness you will really gain from your material possessions?

This is why I am such a big proponent of personal development. In personal development you learn to make yourself more happy from the inside out. The beauty about self work is that it increases your ability to be happy more of the time without needing anything outside yourself. Unlike material goods that slowly loose their ability to make you happy (and often cause you just as much sadness as happiness) when you make a lasting change to yourself its rather permanent. When you work on yourself you begin to increase your overall level of happiness and your ability to be happy has increased no matter what the situation.

As we have heard a hundred times by now “money doesn’t buy happiness” and this has even been affirmed many times in many scientific journals. The last one I read pointed out that people tend to have a base level of happiness that they more or less hover around, even if amazing things happen to them. For example when people win the lottery for a period of time their level of happiness goes up, but it eventually goes right back where it was before they won the lottery, the same thing tends to happen to people who are in major accidents and loose the ability to walk or something similar, for a time they are much less happy than they were, then they eventually go back to the level of happiness they were at before the accident.

So if you really think about it the best thing you could ever do for yourself the best new years present ever is the gift of true happiness the gift of yourself to yourself. Learn to become more happy inside without the need of anything external, take a clear close look at your life and start doing those things that really do make you happy and enjoy. Learn to become more sensitive and aware of yourself and your internal nature. The best gift you could ever receive is the gift that you can only receive from yourself.

I continue to write in this blog in order to inspire others to examine their lives and take action in doing those things that will have a real meaningful impact for themselves. I write to inspire personal growth. May we all grow together and live a happy and inspired 2010!

Blessings.

Wu Wei which is usually translated as action through inaction is one of my favorite Taoist terms. Understanding this simple, yet profound, idea has helped me focus on those areas of my life that are most important and yield the most results. Let me explain how by not doing those things that are unimportant and don’t lead to the accomplishment of your goals you are actually doing more than if you did them.

When you take the time not do unimportant things you actually accomplish more than if you took action on those unimportant things. By not doing that which is not in line with your goals you are actually creating much more time and space to do that which is in line with your goals; there is plenty of action in inaction. By consciously choosing not to do those things that are not in line with your goals you are creating the life you want to live, you are practicing Wu Wei – action through inaction, you are becoming extremely efficient. Many people think that to be more efficient you have to accomplish more in less time, but my view of efficiency is accomplishing less in less time, or in other words accomplishing those items which are vitally important to your goals and nothing else.

By choosing not to take action on those things that are not in alignment with your goals you are actually doing more than if you did them and also that by having more time in your life.

Another important reason to do less is that it gives you time to meditate on that which is really important to you. Its very important that we realize what our goals are so we can build a solid foundation for our life.

In our modern world of to-do lists, agendas, calendars, etc, its vitally important that we set apart time everyday for inaction, by doing nothing we learn that which is most important and do just that. Accomplish those things that are only important to your goals and watch your real productivity increase.

Your only real job on while on this planet is to enjoy your life.

Life is meant to be a joy, its our life after all, we should spend it as happy as possible, always reaching new levels of happiness previously un-experienced.

How do we experience the next level of joy in our life? If you think that you have to work hard and do lots of things that you hate in order to be happy you are living a life of means to an end. My question to all those people that are living a life of means to an end is, when will the end become now? When will you actually experience your end, when will the means pay off? Living life as a means to an end will never pay off, because the end never comes its always in the future and never now.

The key is to stop living life as a means to an end, and start living life as if you already have what you want. As Ghandi said, “You must be the change you want to see in the world.” When I first heard that quote it changed my life, because it absolutely makes so much since to me. If you want to be happy you have to start doing things that make you happy now. Living a life as a means to an end will leave you unhappy 95% of the time because you are constantly doing something you don’t like for a short lived result.

If you want to be happy most of the time you have to do those things that make you happy most of the time. It takes courage and clarity to do what makes you happy most of the time, but life is so much better when your happy.

So start doing what makes you happy now, realize that by living a life as means to an end can not give you long lasting sustained happiness. Realize that you must be the change you want to see in the world; you must be happy now.

Be happy and enjoy life.

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday about my recent decision to quit my office job working as a web developer to focus more on my passion in the personal development field, and he remarked that it must have been hard for me to quit given the current economic conditions. I told my friend that while it did take a lot of courage to break out of my comfort zone and start following a more inspired path, it had to be done and it had to be done now. The true reality of the situation is that I am the only one that can change my life and I give no power to anything outside of myself, like the economy, to dictate my life.

If not you, who?

I told my friend that if I let external circumstances dictate my life, then the time would never be right to follow my passions. If I don’t start to stand up for myself now, then when will it ever be right? If I don’t start really sharing the amazing things I have learned in health, wealth creation, relationships, etc., then who would!?

You are the only one who can truly change your life, and furthermore you are the only one who can do what you have to do in your own unique and special way.

You have to start your life now, because no one else can do it for you. No one else can shine just like you can shine; no one else has had all the unique experiences and learning that you have had and no one else has the passions that you have. If you don’t do what you are passionate about, what you absolutely love, then who will? What you have to give the world is so unique and special and if you don’t start giving that, then who will? Who can? Only you have the talents and passions that you have, and only you can give those to the world.

If not now, when?

In the same vain, if you don’t start following your passion now, then when will you? The only time that things actually happen is NOW! Now is the moment of power, but the mind will always come up with reasons why it can’t be done now. By having the mindset that you will start following your passion at some point in the future, that passion will never be followed because the future is never now. Will you do it tomorrow, or next week, or next month or next year? Eventually tomorrow becomes today, next week this week, next year this year, and at some point, you have to start following your passion now! In fact, now is the only time it can happen. So let it happen now! It must be done now, because now is the only time in which it can be done!

There is much less stopping people from doing what they want to do now than they typically believe. Many people believe that all of the right circumstances have to fall into place before they can start doing what they really want to do. Many people think that they must have a certain amount of money in the bank, or be in just the right relationship, or live in just the right place and drive just the right car before they can do what they really want. The reality of the situation is that it’s never going to be a perfect time to start following your passions because the mind can always think up new reasons why it can’t be done right now.

You must understand that NOW is the only time during which you could ever do whatever you want to do. It is actually quite a difficult concept to wrap your head around if you think about it… Nothing, I repeat, nothing ever happens at any time other than the present, and “the future” really only exists as a moment of NOW when it finally does come along. That is to say: THIS very moment is the only REAL moment that ACTUALLY exists, so deciding that you will do something “in the future” is like affirming to yourself that your goal or your plan or your idea genuinely does not even exist!

So go ahead – conjure it into existence, right here and right now. Take action right now.

Of course you will always be able to think of reasons why you can’t do something now, but realize that if you don’t do it now, you are very politely giving all of your power away to forces outside of yourself. Now is truly the moment of power – all you have is now and if it doesn’t happen now, then when?

In sum, you are the master of your life. As comfortable as it is to give our power away to external circumstances outside of ourselves, the simple truth is that you are the only one who is stopping you. The only way you can achieve what you want is to realize that no one else can do it for you. It is just as easy to convince yourself that now is a perfect time to do something as it is to convince yourself that now is a terrible time to do it.

Think about it – it takes a lot of effort to spin all of the reasons to put something off through your mind. To really stop yourself from following your dreams, you have probably come up with thousands of reasons to stop yourself, such as the risks involved, the challenges you might face, the timing… Well imagine if you put all of that effort into thinking about only the potential positives that could come out of making that kind of change. Seriously, consider for a moment that all of the negative “what ifs” are literally JUST AS LIKELY to occur as all of the potential positive “what ifs.”

You simply cannot afford to wait to start following your passions.

May you realize that you are the only one that can make your reality real. May you realize that it can only happen now. May you start now.

I was talking to my brother last night about what he wanted in a relationship, and after I got him to explain exactly what he wanted, I told him to immediately write it down. He asked me why and I explained that it incredibly speeds up the manifestation process.

There is really something magical about writing down your goals (I’ll explain exactly why it is so powerful later in this post). Pretty much every personal development teacher will tell you to write your goals down, but it’s funny how rarely people actually do it… It is absolutely critical!

The more you commit to a goal, the faster it will manifest. You can commit to your goal by doing these things (in order of increasing power): think it, speak it aloud, tell a friend, write it down, tell a trusted love one… There are many more ways to commit to your goal (including specific actions you can take, such as meditating on it, writing a plan, etc.), but in this post I want to focus on the aspect of writing your goal down and sharing it with others – and how powerful those actions are in manifesting your goal.

The beauty about the age in which we live (with sites like Twitter and Facebook) is that you can immediately share your goals with your friends and extended network. The moment you share a goal with other people, it becomes that much stronger because you have committed to it that much more. The more you commit to your goals the quicker they will manifest. The internet has made it incredibly easy to share goals with many people at the same time, which instantly makes you feel more accountable to your goals and adds fuel to your desires.

However, not only does writing down your goals and sharing them make you more accountable and committed, but the real value is that it greatly increases the odds for “chance” occurences to happen that are in alignment with your goals. For example, your goal is to run everyday and you post a Facebook update with that goal as the text. That afternoon, your next door neighbor reads it, and already has a running group and regular practice. He might just knock on your door one morning asking if you would like to go running with him and his running friends… you just never know!

This “chance” is the real power of writing down your goals and sharing them. They then quickly start to manifest into reality because you have truly let them go into the world. You have taken your goals and made them much more real – by writing them down they are real on paper, by telling others they are real in others’ consciousnesses. The more your goals are real around you, the more they start to become realized around you! So write your goals down and share, share, share.

Here are my goals for this blog, and here are my personal goals. Please read them and let them inspire you to write your goals down and share them.

It’s time for a change. I have realized that my true calling is leading a revolution in thinking about personal development and achievement. My birthday present to myself this year was to quit my day job (as a developer for a web firm in my area) to do that which I feel truly called to do…

This blog is a start of that.

I have a lot more to learn and an amazing life ahead of me, and I can’t wait to share it here. I can’t wait to post on all the things about which I am most passionate, specifically the new paradigm of thinking and interacting with the world. Some example topics I will touch on include: how to have better relationships; how to create more abundance in your life; how to be more productive; and generally how to take your life to the next level.

But more importantly I will ask the bigger questions, like what does it even mean to be in relationship? What does it even mean to have more abundance in your life? Why would we even want to be more productive, and what does it even really mean to take take your life to the next level?

In our society we are so fast to try to solve problems, but have we even looked closely at the root of the problems themselves? Not enough people are asking the questions that really matter. I’m tired of status-quo-personal-development that simply teaches you how to play the game a little better. Let’s transcend the game altogether! Let’s collectively take a close look at our beliefs and go to the root of our problems.

I aim to make this a blog of new thought. A blog about new ways of looking at old problems. This blog is for the new age and for the betterment of all human kind. Let us usher in the new era of personal achievement and conscious growth. The time for the new conscious evolution is now.
